Peanut Butter Cacao Latte Recipe
When it comes to the benefits of peanut butter, why should smoothies have all the fun?
Smoothies surged in popularity throughout the 90s and early 2000s. The ease with which people could suddenly consume a day's worth of vegetable nutrients in a quick morning drink helped make the green smoothie a thing everyone was familiar with.
The icy blend of chocolate, banana and peanut butter made protein-focused smoothies geared towards those looking for recovery after the gym made a post-workout smoothie almost as enjoyable as sipping on an actual milkshake. And with healthy fats, loads of protein, vitamins and minerals added in, it's easy to understand how smoothie shops started popping up every few blocks.
But why can't we take that flavor and those benefits and add them into a latte? Vanilla, lavender, hazelnut - syrups and milk-blends have become all the rage in the coffee world, but for those looking not only for a morning boost, but more nourishment for their body must feel as though they're on the outside looking in at the coffee and coffee alternative world.
But combining a fat source like peanut butter with caffeine from Blossom's cacao latte mix can be a game-changer for your energy levels. The fat in peanut butter helps to slow the absorption of caffeine, reducing the jitters and crash that can sometimes come with caffeinated beverages.
So, let's do it. Let's tip our hats to the fine folks at Reese's and find yet another way to add peanut butter to our chocolate. Though as I'm sure they learned many years ago, it won't be easy.
Getting peanut butter to essentially turn into a syrup will take effort. You'll need to boil water and that water will need to remain hot. After boiling water, feel free to add four ounces to a mug along with a tablespoon of peanut butter. Once you've combined them in a mug, it'll take some effort and likely a whisk, but if you continue to whip the peanut butter, it will eventually fully melt. Though if you let this drink get cold, it will begin to lose its solubility, so you'll want to drink the latte while it's hot.
In this instance, think of peanut butter closer to something like chocolate rather than a more soluble powder or syrup you may often put into lattes. It needs to remain at a higher temperature to stay in its more syrupy form.
But the payoff is worth it!
